Older Adults

Who This Is For
This coaching may be a good fit if you:
Want to feel more comfortable with the technology you already own
Are tired of being rushed through explanations you didn't ask for
Worry about scams, passwords, or clicking the wrong thing
Want to stay connected with family who live far away
Need to use a patient portal, telehealth, or online forms
Have questions you've been embarrassed to ask someone else
You don't need to be "good with computers." You just need someone willing to slow down.

Why MyLearnTech Lab
I'm Jodi, and I've spent over a decade in higher education supporting adult learners.
I also help care for older adults in my own life — driving to appointments, walking dogs, sitting down together when the phone does something baffling. And I know the other side of it, too: the call that starts with "the computer is doing something strange," or "can you look at this email and tell me if it's real?" I've been the person on both ends of that call.
So I know how often technology gets explained too fast, by someone who's already halfway to the next thing. And I know how isolating it is when the tools everyone else uses to stay in touch feel like they were built for someone else.
Here, there's no rushing and no such thing as a silly question. We'll go at your pace, for as long as it takes.

What We Can Work On Together
-
Email & messaging — sending, receiving, organizing, attachments
-
Your phone or tablet — settings, apps, and how things work
-
Video calls — Zoom, FaceTime, Google Meet with family and friends
-
Online safety — spotting scams, strong passwords, safe browsing
-
Patient portals & telehealth — MyChart, prescription refills, appointments (Note: You're in control - only share your screen if you're comfortable, and I will never ask you for your passwords
-
Online banking & bill pay — safely and confidently (please note that I can only explain this function, not demonstrate it)
-
Shopping online — Amazon, grocery delivery, avoiding fake sites
-
Whatever's been bugging you — bring your real questions

How It Works
Step 1 - Choose your session
A Gentle Start
One session.
60 minutes.
A relaxed, unhurried hour to work on whatever's been on your mind — one question or several.
Steady Steps
Three sessions.
60 minutes per session.
Time to build real confidence, practice between sessions, and come back with the questions that always seem to come up afterward.

Technology changes fast. The people teaching it often don't slow down. That's where I come in.
I offer virtual, one-on-one coaching designed especially for older adults who want to feel more confident with the tools they use every day — without judgment, without jargon, and without ever being made to feel rushed.
Whether you want to video call your grandkids, manage your patient portal, spot a scam before it lands, or finally figure out what that app actually does — we'll work through it together. Progress, not perfection.

Step 2 - Tell me what you'd like help with
On the booking form, share your questions or what's been giving you trouble. Not sure how to describe it? That's completely okay — tell me what you've been trying to do and we'll sort it out together.
Step 3 - Meet one-on-one
We'll meet virtually for personalized guidance at your pace and comfort level. No rushing, no jargon, no assumptions about what you should already know.

What to Expect
Before we meet
You'll get an email with a link to join our Zoom session. On a computer, there's nothing to install. Just click the link. If you're using a tablet, Zoom may ask you to download its free app first. I'll walk you through that quick, one-time step. If you'd like a practice run beforehand to make sure everything works, just ask. That's a normal request, not a bother.
When we begin
We'll start by talking, not clicking. You'll tell me what's been frustrating or confusing, and I'll listen. There's no test and no assumption about what you should already know.
What you'll need
A computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera, and an internet connection. That's it. If there's a device, non-banking or financial account, or program you want help with, have it nearby, but don't worry if you're not sure where to start. Only have a smartphone? We can't hold the session on a phone. If you'd like to learn how to use your phone, join from a computer or tablet and keep your phone beside you. If you don't have either one, reach out and we'll talk through the options.

Something to look back on
Remembering everything from one session is a lot to ask of anyone. So you'll have a choice about what to keep:
- Printed notes in the mail — step-by-step instructions you can keep beside your computer, no printer or downloading required
- A digital copy — emailed as a PDF if you'd rather have it on your screen
- A recording of our session — so you can watch it again whenever you like Some people want more than one. Recordings are always your choice. I only record with your permission, and the recording is shared only with you. I'll keep it for 30 days, so you can always contact me for a copy during that time.
Just tell me what would help, and that's what you'll get.
During the session
We'll go at your pace — slowly, with as much repetition as you'd like. You can share your screen so I can see exactly what you're seeing, though that's always your choice.
When we finish
You'll know what to practice and how to reach me. If this was a single session, my door stays open — book again anytime, whether that's next week or next year. If you have more sessions ahead, we'll schedule them and talk about what to work on next.

A Note For Family Members
Are you a family member looking for help for a parent or loved one?
You're in the right place. Families often reach out on behalf of a parent, grandparent, or other family member who could use patient one-on-one coaching. It's a way to get them the support they need without putting strain on the family relationship.
Have questions? Want to chat before you schedule your loved one for a session? Email me to schedule a phone conversation. As the daughter of an aging parent, I understand completely!
